Recall of 2002 S2000
I received a call just before Xmas from my local Honda dealer saying that my car had been recalled for oil jet problems and new sparkplugs.
They changed my oil and did something to the oil jets and gave me back the car with new sparkplugs the same day.
Has everbody with a 2002 S2000 had a recall .
I would be interested in anybodys comments, and why was this recall so urgent ?

I think just about every s2000 has had this done (or should have) all bar the latest 02's that had the new bolts/plugs done at factory before shipping.
had mine done without fuss a couple months ago. Mines a MY00.

Strictly speaking, this is not a recall, it is a product update. A recall is only made for safety reasons..these changes do not affect the cars safety in any way. The oil bolt change is to prevent oil starvation on the No. 4 cylinder during prolonged high speed cornering (like on a track day). The spark plugs were changed I believe to avoid the rare situation when they can unwind from the cylinder head and cause misfires.
I had the work carried out 3 months or so ago - done in a day. You will get an extra years warranty on the engine for your trouble. My dealer tried to charge me for an oil and filter (and labour !). A quick e-mail to Honda Customer Services sorted that out and I ended up paying nothing. One thing to note is that the dealer will replace the oil for you but not the filter. Probably best to stump up the tenner os so that it costs. If you engine has not done many miles, then they should refill with the recommended mineral oil. I had done 6000 miles, so I opted for the semi-synthetic Shell Helix and will change to mobil 1 (fully synthetic) at the next service.
I am quite impressed with Honda on this one...not many manufacturers would inform customers and recommend changes such as these - I guess Honda are very proud of their reputation as engine manufacturers and want to keep their excellent reputation.

I must be the only one who has not had the work done, will have to kick my dealer up the "%*%, Have spoken to Honda on three ocassions, still waiting for letter. I understand the oil part of the work should really be done asap. My sons dealer said the work should be treated as urgent as they have a customers car blow the engine

Guy, Graham - I believe that Honda's database is far from 100% reliable - I queried my car (early 01) a number of times, each time arguing the case with them before they finally (verbally) admitted that yes indeed my car did need the plugs / oil jet updates. A further 3 or 4 calls and they actually agreed to send me written confirmation of this so I could get a dealer to do the work. Simple really
And as for those poor unfortunates who don't read these bbs
Good luck guys - dont let the buggers grind you down

I'd cut through the bureaucracy a bit and use the Honda website to verify whether you need the work doing. recall link
You'll get an email back in a couple of working days from Honda with an attached Adobe Acrobat .pdf file that you can print out and take along to the dealer. This is all they need to be able to perform the work free of charge and get you your new spark plugs, free oil change, and an extra years engine warranty
W6DAN - my car arrived in April last year and required both spark plugs and oil bolts.
