Default redesign for 2004??

Hi there, I was looking to buy an S2000 in August this year, however, given the S is coming up to its fifth anniversary it's left me with a bit of a dilemma: Do I get one now and enjoy the summer, or wait till next year to see what changes Honda make (if any)? There seems to be some discussion within the various forums as to whether Honda will add a bigger engine and/or i-VTEC to the next generation, as well as cosmetic changes, although no date has been released as to when this might happen. Anyone care to speculate?

I`d just wait until the day before you are dead, then get the latest, greatest S or equiv. That way you`ll never get upset about newer models...

Do you see?

Fifth anniversary ????

Have I missed something ????

Mine's only coming up to it's 4th birthday

Have I been in a time capsule or something, or worse still, was I kidnapped by aliens ???

Somebody put my mind at rest

Has anyone thought of the flip side.

You may wait until they do a change and it be so bad that the earlier models go up in value and become rare and sought after.

AHH that makes me feel a little bit easier.

Its a totally valid dilemma. As CC indicated you can't always wait for these things - or you end up waiting a long time - wait for 2004/5 and some other model will come out that will make you think....what if?......

you gotta just make the jump - whatever changes are made for 2004 they are unlikely to be major...

to my mind the original is always the best and in the future often the most sort after

examples include

E-Type......by the time it had evolved it had a heavy V12 up front, nasty bumpers

MGB..........as above in so far as engine size and rubber bumpers

Ferrari 328/348.....Ferrari could have probs continued making the 328 but instead replaced it with the 348 which was inferior in just about every respect

Moral of the story get the orginal, evolutions are created to 'drag' out the shelf life of the model with some exceptions such as the 911 but as a general rule the originals are the ones to have

I agree with Steve, give this guy a break!!! He is new to the forum and has a valid concern about a possible re-design and is seeking guidance from you guys to help him make a decision. He is not looking for derisory comments!

s2ook, if you're worried about this, then have you though about buying a nearly new model (PWE896, Tifosi Red and ijbarrett all have very nice clean examples for sale) which will be cheaper to purchase, will not suffer from the "major" depreciation suffered by new cars and will prvide exactly the same level of thrills as a brand new one. This will then allow you to have a summer in one of the best roadsters around, while allowing you to make a judgement on if / when you should trade up to a MY2004.
