Reluctant Cold Gearbox changes SOLVED

In short if you are having shifting troubles and you drain the oil out of the box and it has a strong smell to it then it has had the wrong oil put in it. If it looks and smells like engine oil then you likely have the right oil in and your problem will lie elsewhere, still for the cost of a couple of litres of oil I would change it.
First to second gear definitely worsened over the time before I changed. Went smooth as butter for the first few hundred miles and now it's still a little notchy changing when cold.
Until it's warmed up my usual routine is to let the shifter centre it self from first then go into second. Bit of a chore but I'm waiting on the engine to warm up anyway before it gets the beans so it's now just become part of the cars character

I'm no expert, but isn't that asking a bit much of the synchros in the higher gears?
I'm sure the best practice is to always go through the gears synchros for up and down shifts as it put's too much stress on them making such a huge leap in ratios.
I think this is also one of the reasons why 2nd gear synchro goes first because of block down shifts.
Unless you are double de-clutching like you should rather than granny shifting

You lot should spend 30 minutes with the 'gearbox' attached to a K series engine in a lotus. When you got back in your 'notchy' s2000, you would literally think you had been transported to future land where the gearbox is king of all things smooth.
The box in mine is like trying to change gear with a wood spoon in a bowl of very thick custard. But less precise.

I find it easer to block change until everything is warmed up

I don't use2nd when the 'box is cold - 1st to 3rd on the way up and 3rd to first ( if stationery) on the way down. My IAM instructor didn't have a problem with it - indeed she actively encouraged it

So long as you count double-time, or double declutch, 1-3 shouldn't be a problem.
It's people who stuff it in that wear cold synchros.
But I believe the Institute of Arrogant Motorists disdain of fancy pedalwork, citing fuel economy as en excuse. Which is not entirely logical.

Kinda hoping gear stick removal/greasing would help, but guess not reading this <SOLVED> thread,
already shift 1-3rd when cold,
get the revs right 1ST - 2ND is ok,its just that getting the revs right is an art about 3k - 3.5k
04 box..btw
