The car will have to be higher than most axle stands permit in order to drop it.

I lifted mine out which also means you just split it from the box and leave box in place, Did mine all on my own on my drive on axle stands, found i had to remove the bumper bar to allow the crane far enough back as the engine sits so far back in the bay

I found it easier to remove the crank pulley to allow you more room for pulling it out and dropping it back in, Made a tool to do this myself ,

will add pics when i get home as my work PC is so SLOW

Dropping the engine is just something I thought of when I was down the road.As I only get home at weekends I have to give it a good eyeballing then.

If I dropped it I would have to split it and roll the engine on it's side to get it out from under the car. I can see the dodgy gearbox bolt and I can see it will be a basket to remove,so I may slacken the gb mount off and get it like that.

There seems to be pros and cons with doing it both ways, joeh when I took the prop off last year I think the back of the box is sealed, why would I have to remove the diff at this stage?

On the plus side I might be getting Viper hoses to make a full set of replacement silicone hoses, including vacuum,so if there is anyone interested I will ask them to keep the part numbers.

Rob the crank pulley has got to come off anyway because the supercharger pulley is also attached to it,my lift has a telescopic arm for different engine weights so getting it back far enough should be ok.

As all the ancillaries have got to come off anyway,I think I will do that first an then give it another costing of eyeball....how much do you want for your crank pulley?

If its a sealed unit then you should have just 6 bolts to remove or something similar on the gearbox side, then you can avoid removing or making clearance regarding the Diff

I've worked on too many cars recently so I can't remember the S2000 very well, a lot of cars they don't have sealed boxes therefore the prop slides into them and the only way to take the prop off easily is to move/take off the diff or remove all the mounts around the diff so it can bend in a suitable angle to remove while lowering out the engine

So regarding the diff you can ignore me

I would leave inlet manifold/ Ancillaries on so you just need to remove vacuum, water, fuel, electrical connections, manifold, starter motor, engine mounts, gearbox, air inlet and she will fall out
My engine crane was on full extension and still not long enough

Tool used to remove pulley, its fairly heavy duty

Up and drop is easiest, if you can get it on ramps.

I will give it some eyeball this weekend, and decide,it was really to find out the pros and cons of either way and to se if there is something obvious I had missed.

If you are removing the front x member anyway can't you then lift the engine and box out the top in one unit, this is how we used to do it on the MGB and such, much easier and i would remove manifolds it gives more room for maneuvering.
