Thanks Jonathan, I tried to join the VTC forum a week back, still waiting for a confirmation email do you know how long it takes to be accepted?

Hi,

Nice project! Look forward to your updates!

I have a custom cages cage waiting to be fitted to my car. They a send 3 sample pieces of pipe with the kit and instructions on how they should be welded. You (or the person carrying out the work) weld them up as per instructions and send them back to custom cages who will test and issue certificate if its up to standard.

Just a note on the discs, i cracked mine. I never knew the make but they look exactly like the ones you have fitted. I use carbotech XP8 pads and they cracked during my fastest session to date. They had had a fair bit of abuse on previous trackdays so should be fine for learning, but as you get quicker and really start to lean on the brakes hard i would recommend a change.
Have you gone with the 6 point, are you getting yours fitted by a cage welder or you going to give it a go yourself? I was going to give it a go with my bamp who is a fairly decent welder and has the kit to do it, but after visiting the specialist today its sounds like its going to be a tough job,

Yeh I had a feeling I would need to upgrade, I will use these till they brake and then switch to what MB is using,

where are you based are you planning on racing in any series?

I have a 6 point clubman with door bars, harness bar and a pillar gussets. A friend will be installing it for me, I would do it myself but I'm not 100% confident welding a cage in!

I'm up in sunny Scotland and plan on racing up here when the car eventually gets finished!!we have a very good 'time attack' style series and the proper door to door smrc racing as well. I'm sure i will head down south for a race or two at some point as well!

On the cage, I went direct to custom cages and had it in 23 days

Keep us updated on your progress!

I am planning on using Team dynamics pro 1.2, the 8J's are cheaper and obviously lighter, so was just wondering if the 8J's would work well with the car, or as it been best proven to use the 9J square setup,
From what I've read on here people that use a square set up (mostly USA guys) have to reduce the front end grip (or increase the rear) after going square to rebalance the car. They do this bt stiffening the front suspension normally with harder springs or a stiffer anti-roll bar.

I think I'd want at lease 8.5" width wheels too as per the standard width 17" facelift rear alloys to run either 245 or 255 width tyres all around. Quite a few people get the rear alloys machined so that they can also be fitted onto the front of the car.

I'm not convinced on the square setup idea.

Mine has more front grip than I could want, so adding more isn't something I'd look to do. Also it's not easy getting a set of matching wheels with the correct front offset to clear calipers.

Most RWD race cars run a staggered setup too.

Getting the car properly setup has taken me years of spring / damping / roll bar adjustment...

Yeh its confusing me, common sense would tell me to run staggered but as Mbd_75 said US seem to be running square, I'm gonna go with my gut feeling and go for staggered and I suppose it's just going to be trial and error from there finding what setup up I'm comfortable with. I am most definitely going with Team dynamics though if anyone as any opinions on these?, I went to watch the MX5 cup series a few weeks back and the majority of those were using them, light weight and come at a decent price.

Little bit of an update, I have found a welder to weld the cage for free he hasn't welded for a few years but is comfortable with doing it after watching the custom cages install DVD's, haven't had chance to order cage yet as it was the missis birthday yesterday so car talk is band for a couple of days lol

I think we get a discount with Team Dynamics, but not sure if they have offset suitable wheels for the S?

AH crap, yeh offset ranges, would need a lot of pulling/rolling for these:

Size Offset PCD Min PCD Max PCD Weight
17x8.0 e13-53mm 4 & 5 stud 98mm 120mm 9.0kgs
17x9.0 e23-45mm 4 & 5 stud 98mm 120mm 9.5kgs

What setup are you currently running MB, if you don't mind saying,
