Default Roadpilot, Installation

First attempt today. Unfortunately, my camera ran out of juice after one shot, so this is all I have.

I removed the supplied mounting suction pad from the Roadpilot unit. I removed the passenger side radio kick panel, and drilled a hole through this for a bracket to pass through. The bracket is approx 15mm wide, 2 mm thick steel. This is bolted on using the kick panel fastening screw.

Another bracket is screwed on to the roadpilot mounting unit using the screws holding the unit together. This is bolted to the protruding bracket so that the unit can be swiveled a bit.

I may have a crack tomorrow at creating a new bracket to bring to unit out in front of the radio door a bit more. The RP is using up a bit to much passenger leg room.

Cool looking unit. Be careful though Chris, I reckon having to look that far away from the road to view the unit is potentially distracting and dangerous. Can you get it somewhere closer to your line of natural sight when driving? I have my V1 on the drivers sun visor and even having to glance up only that far is distracting and can take your eyes off the road just at a crucial moment. That's why I opted for the additional small remote display unit which is on top of the dash and more in my line of vision.

It looks as though with the hinge arrangement you have now, you could mount it easily on the drivers 'A' pillar. The plastic shroud just pulls away for drilling/fixing and it would be easy to route the wires out of sight too.

Cedric, you're right about it being a distraction. I was trying to get it relatively out of sight. The alerts are audible, so not much need to look at the screen really. The only user interaction required is selecting trip type before setting off.

The V1 is audible too, but with those flashing directional arrows to indicate the direction of the threat, it does tend to draw your eye to it. Getting it nicked is a worry I know, at least I can unplug and unclip the V1 main unit if I'm parked anywhere I'm not happy about.

If I had a new toy like that RP I'd want that screen where I could see it.

I'm going to have to try it for a week. My Geodesy Pro was used as audible only, mounted under dash, and it was quite nice not having to remove it. If the RP gets a routing facility, visibility will be a major issue. I had the RP mounted against the windscreen for a week, and I found that it was too distracting, as well as getting in the way. I'm feeling a little now.

What you need is an SR6-Neo. I don't have a problem with mine.

Get enough of these gizmos and you feel like you should be flying an F16.

Hmm, this is what stopped me from buying one last year at the Motorshow - I just could not see where in the S it could be sensibly mounted!

It would be neater if it could be mounted on the radio door but IIRC the connection point would rule this out.

Fantastic unit though.

I`d consider attaching it to the peak of a baseball cap. That`d be safe.
