Ok so today I speat a little time looking at how I was going to remove the valve springs, retainers and seals without removing the head in anticipation of my upgraded supertech items arriving later on this week. After doing a bit of a search I found tools that do the job so I thought I'd have a go at making my own version. We'll the short of it is it works a treat I'm going to prevent the valves dissapearing down into the cylinder by simply rotating the crank so that the piston is at TDC on the respective cylinder I'm working on. It works so I'm happy. With the piston at TDC the valve only drops about 5mm or something so no danger of loosing it. Going to make something to remove the lower retainer and seal aswell as they will also be replaced.

Cheers dude. I takes alot of time and patients which I really dont have sometimes. You have to keep telling youself it'll all be worth it in the end. Getting the 2 buses to and from work every day for one is a complete pain in the ass. Roll on summer and enjoyment time!

Really interesting thread.
Refreshing to see someone messing around with their S who actually knows what he's doing. Fed up of reading about people securing aftermarket alloys with wingnuts & stuff...
Like the EK4 too!

Just a small question, on the head, inbetween the valves there is what looks like a small piston which looks like it is spring loaded that is sticking up on an angle that has come into contact with something repeatedly.
Does anyone know what I am talking about, and if so, do you know what it does!?
Is it a hydraulic lifter for the VTEC system?
Many thanks!

Look here
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4...19277678875693#
shows you exactly what its for.
It keeps the high lift cam follower in contact with the high lift cam.
The valve spring would normally do this, but when VTEC is not engaged there would be nothing to support the high lift cam follower.

I thought I recognised your username!! Anyway nice clean up on the calipers, just wandering how long it took you to do, as well as rebuild I guess... thinking of doing this for mine over a weekend perhaps?? (rebuild + clean + paint)

You might get one set done over the weekend dude. It does take a little time if you want to go to the extent I have. Also I reccomend that you order your rebuild seal kits before you start. This includes the nessesary rubber boots and seals for renewal of your old perished or cracked ones. I was very careful and lucky that all of my seals were in very good condition and carefully removed you may be able to reuse them. For peace of mind I would replace them though, especially if you are going to all this effort. I ordered mine from Lings honda parts specialist.
You will also need a good set of long c-clip pliers. New brake fluid, brake cleaner, anti rust primer or just your general caliper paint. To be honest I was lucky to have my bench grinder with wire bristle attachment. If it was not for this the whole job would have been next to impossible/too time consuming to get to this standard. Alternatively just get your caliper paint kit and be done with it. Foilatec do a nice one you can order online.
