I've been under my cars more time than under the sun, that is definitely not right..

How did you manage that? Quite a high angle too

Has anyone got a reference pic? How did I manage that? Well I don't believe it was me. I now think the car had been prangged before I bought it. My impact was nothing to do with the front. In that case how did it chack out HPI clear?

I am really, really upset!

Ouch. I know how gutting this can be, happened to me a long long time ago on the first car I bought

If no claim is made on insurance I don't think it ends up on the HPI register.

What's involved in correcting it?

Just a thought... would it have not driven like a complete dog before your accident if it was that misaligned? Or can you cover that sort of sub frame bend with some dodgy alignment?

You can twist a chassis incredible easily. My first s had virtually immaculate bodywork when it was retired to the s2000 grave yard, it was only after scanning a laser down the chassis that we identified an ever-so-slight twist. Once it's twisted, that's it.

It can be incredibly challenging to spot.

So could this be the end?

What the hell could have caused it? Its only the sub frame that looks bent, and only at the front...

Let me get another pic up to show you what I mean.

Here you can see that the 6 main mounting holes are in line, but the front area where the steering rack mounts looks twisted...

There were no scuffs, dings or dents in it though when I took it off. I was in 2 minds if it was going with the other parts to get powdercoated as It looked so fresh. How the hell could this of happened. If it was going to be hit it would have to be at such an angle. Almost like it was dropped from a height onto the front edge of it. Holes on the left being lower and holes on the right being heigher which is the same as how the steering rack looks to be mounted in the pic above.

This really is too much to take in

So sad to see this, after all your hard work.

Will a new subframe sort it, or does that mean something else is bent?

Simple answer, get a subframe off of ebay from a used car and trial fit it. If it fits and you can align, perfect.

If not, the chassis is twisted and you need a new one. Extremely painful message - i've experienced it before.

The subframes are incredibly 'soft' under impact and i've had to replace and entire rear one before that was fractionally bent. Only way we could tell it was bent, was using a laser-alignment place.

So fingers crossed it IS ok.

Actually, let's get a few other opinions on this. It could be just that my experience was an odd one-off and I was exceptionally unlucky.

Anybody else had a similar situation?
