Default Rolling road issues?

Evening all, a short while ago myself and a fellow member 'Mitch' went along to a rolling road day and I'm wondering if my results are around where they should be or infact low as I am thinking.

My car burns oil, a lot! I get regular but not specific blue smoke. I am hoping some of you lot with the knowledge about these things and specifically our engines may shed some light?

The car currently has a K&N fipk, a resonated decat and a buddyclub single exit exhaust. I am aware these mods need a map to bring the power but still thought it would higher than it is?

Cheers for reading, Will.

As will mentioned in his post, I took my car to the same dyno day and to give you a comparison, here's a copy of my dyno results.

The car is fitted with a Miltek dual exhaust, AEM V2 intake and a Mugen exhaust manifold. Like wills, my car has not been mapped to suite the mods so we were both expecting similar results as I would have thought the gains from my exhaust manifold would be roughly matched by his decat..

Now i'm no expert at dyno's etc but apart from the differences in HP, i'm intrigued at how wills car lost nearly 17 & 12HP more than mine between the motor and wheels???

215WHP is on the high side, consider that your bhp is 234 BHP (@ fly) there's something wrong with the loss factor IMO - depends if its an internia dyno etc.

Those mods would only add say 10BHP throughout, more/more noticeable up top.

AFR printout would help too if you have them.

Blue smoke: valve stem seals or rings possibly - have you done a compression check with a good battery?

Has the car been serviced?, is the PCV valve in good working order?

Burning oil can cake up internals and lower octane rating which can inturn reduce power. Later models of the S2000 run a slightly leaner AFR that can add power, so if you compare an MY00 ECU with MY02 and above an MY02 runs a little leaner - TBH it maybe MY04 and beyond but i cant remember.

A higher atmospheric pressure will yield slightly higher power figures. Its hard to see on the pictures, but correction factors can also yield more/less power, so if they are not the same however its based on PID calculation.

You need to ask the RR operator is all factors were the same of thereabouts, noticeably pressure, correction factor and temperature (temp looks roughly the same between the two).

Depending on dyno tyre pressure can effect readings slightly but it has to way out of spec.

Mitches car is what i would consider better mods than wellwibbs, but 17BHP is quite a difference. To be honest its in the realms of something not being right, ~5BHP i wouldn't worry about it but 17 is a bit.

IIWM i'd be asking the RR operator these questions and checking the car over, but blue smoke doesnt sound good sorry

180 whp is where these cars are imo, which eqauls about 220 aft.

240 is bullshit and Honda must have achieved (237) on a bloody cold day with some other tweaks!

Your drivetrain loss is mostly measured on coast down and the dyno measures the resistance load. You can get bigger drivetrain losses on a dyno because of things like the way it was strapped down, sticky brake calipers, more resistive oil in the gearbox etc etc.

I don't know that type of dyno you have used, but it's odd that the gear factor numbers are different.

How does your car compare when driven side by side on a private test track. Does your mate pull away easily.

Or on a dual carriageway in 3rd gear (or what ever gear you decide, multiple gears could be tested if you need to really have some fun.. i mean iron it out! not fun ) both doing 35 say.. give it the old 3 horn beeps then just put your trotters down! Do it a few times maybe different gears just repeat until satisfaction is obtained or police catch up with you! That's what I would do, nice quiet straight road and keep your eyes open for the police.

It's like an old fashioned shoot out! How exciting!

Track isn't an easy option as i guess you would be driving your own cars, so driver skill set will come into play and how long will that take to organise!? take it in to your own hands and get it done tonight or tomorrow

Middlesbrough's got it. My phone kept auto correcting wink wink to something totally inappropriate to the topic so I had to delete it.
