Running In
I am due to take delivery of my 05 model S in a couple of weeks, after looking at the pics from "robs_silver_s2k " by the way what a beaut!!! he mentions that he will be vteching befor the end of the month, which leads me to this question... do i have to run it in?? and if so how far? The Honda dealership where i will be getting mine from told me that i dont have to run it in, and the one they lent me for the day only had 450 miles on the clock and it certainly had a hefty dose of vteching that day i can tell you...
Can anyone please help..

Theres quite a bit about this on the usa forum , theres a guy recons that vteccing from the start ultimately leads to a more powerful engine. In my opinion if Honda say so then i must obey! I wonder what would happen if your engine seiezed with 25 miles on the clock and an ecu that read it had been up to 9k revs a second before

I'm not saying you're in the wrong for following their advice and giving it some stick, but the dealership obviously doesn't have the first clue about the 'S... therefore you definitely won't have been the first person to redline it in those 450 miles!
Buying 2nd hand is always a gamble too, you can never be sure how well it was treated in those critical first 1000 miles, but it's certainly going to be more carefully looked after than a dealer demo or a hire car!
Congrats on your purchase anyway, and run it in nicely!
Tim
I am 2-3 weeks behind you in waiting for mine to be delivered.
I have to say after reading the Teq FAQ on this forum i WILL definetly by running the S in. I've been lusting after one for so long & am spending a decent wedge of bunce on it so i want to enjoy it for many moons to come. I'm not going to risk it.
Being a newb I read the dealer rating thread on here & i've realised that Honda dealers don't always know what they're doing with the S.

Run it in, better to be safe than sorry.
Though a friend has ragged his from new and so far no problems.
The engines are run on the bench for a few miles before going in the car. So its not that they don't have any miles on them at all. Though I doubt the loads are the same in that situation than when on the road.

Having just had a new engine fitted in mine, the dealers advice is 1000 miles trying not to exceed 6k rpm, although revs are not the issue, but do not put too much load on the engine ie low revs in too high a gear.
This new engine does seem to have a lot more bottom end torque than the original motor !
