Running In

I can't believe none of you pointed our newbie to the tech faq (which is linked in my sig
)Full marks to the other newbie - echo66 - for at least mentioning that it exists.
Hang your heads in shame, the rest of you
We took delivery of our S 05 in March.
Dealer told us to keep rev limit to 4 to 5k for the first 1,000 miles.
We did as we were told. At the end of the day the engine and transmission needs to bed in. Also oil and filter change to be done at 5,000 miles going on to full synthetic.

Or RTFM - which I'm sure
says:
<5500rpm upto 600km
<6500rpm upto 700km
<7500rpm upto 800km
<8500rpm upto 1000km/600miles (600miles is less!)
Doh - now I'm not so sure
Why is the manual always 160 miles away when you want to read it
So Check the Technical FAQ

But it's definitely starting to skip along the road a lot more nicely now we've just had the 9k service (at 8k6) and put fully-synthetic Shell Helix Ultra wotsit in!

The running in period for the S2000 is 1000km before the use of VTEC. This means 650 miles before you rev over 6000rpm. It is then recommended that you go up by 1000rpm for every 100 miles. Running in, isn't just the engine so it's important to vary rpms as much as possible and change gears as often as possible. You're bedding in the whole drivetrain/brakes/engine.

You'll love it even more when you get to 900 miles
The first 600 miles were getting used to the feel of the car (and spent almost exclusively with the top down), and after that ive been giving the car its head little by little. I ran it up to 8k rpm for the first time this evening. Mild night, top down, vtec up to 8k - fantatsic!

858 miles on mine, and yes, each 100 miles adds 1k to the rev counter and a few cm to my smile.

some things to look forward to:
seeing the limiter light flash as you go through the gears........
running into the limiter in the middle of your flashy overtake...........
fluffing your first full bore 2>3 change and sticking it in 5th.........
enjoy
Just had a call from Bob Gerards with answers to some questions i'd asked prior to my delivery. One of which was recommendations on running in.
Response? Absolutely run it in. Keep it sweet until about 1k then change the oil to synthetic although this can be left longer until 2.5k as the engine etc is still barely run in. Build the revs as mentioned previously.

You know, Paul, using the Vtec in an S is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. You have to be patient, not go at it hammer and tongs straight away. You need to take her out a few times, treat her gently, respectfully, until the time is right. And when that time comes, having waited for so long, it will be that much more enjoyable.
And just one more thing, Paul....even after the first service, remember to never go all the way unless she's properly warmed up, you have to watch for the signs - usually 3 for an older model, or 8 for a young thing. Then wait a further 3 minutes, and you can do anything you want.
