Running in
I would like some advice from the guru's (and yes I have read the FAQ'S)
I have to collect a brand new S from rochdale this coming Sunday at about 1300 hrs and drive it to maidstone ,some 300 miles .
The FAQs say that motorway driving is not the bast way to run in an S so ,as I have no alternative what would be the best way of doing this i.e. varying the speed ,perhaps short bursts in 4th or 5th to vary the engine load ,a few stops to let things cool down ?
Any advice greatly appreciated .

Set up the sat nav to avoid motorways?

The aim being to expose the car to all the varing driving conditions it will experience. Including cornering which you will miss out on the motorway, accelerating, crusing and braking.
I did consider this and will investigate further . however as the sat nav says it will take 4.5 hours to get home (fastest route ) and I will not get to the dealer until 1 or 2 pm I ain't really got time for to much hooning around , much as i'd like to .
I had to drive mine from Derby to Essex when I bought it.
Therefore, I made arrangements with a friend in Melton to have lunch with her and plotted a route with as little motorway work as possible.
Pretty much made it a full day to get back but it was more than worth it to get a feel for the car and start running her in properly.

I can relate to this, collected mine 120 miles away and drove it back crosscountry to avoid motorways, but a week later and only 300 miles on the clock I had to drive to Trowbridge some 200 miles away on business so did not have the time to spare going on A & B roads. I just varied the speed and gear through put the journey, I must say it was a long and tiring journey!!
When I got mine I had a 70 mile drive on fairly boring A roads, a couple of showing off drives with some of the family and then an 80 mile trip home which was 60 miles of motorways in bad weather.
Didn't vary speed much more than usual driving in those conditions just didn't thrash the thing.

Dont get hung up on it, just don't let it labour up hills, keep the revs up - but not redline and you'll be fine.
Low revs and big hills will kill it, high revs and no load won't.
As I had a company barge recently, I got it off the loader with 2miles on it, ragged it arse off the redline all day and drove 500miles in one hit.
Its fine, and uses no oil, but then It's not mine and I give it back this year
Remember your breaking in the diff and box too, so if you end up on motorways, just take your time with the process.
