Rust removal
Afternoon all,
I've got a few items that are covered in rust. After having a read, it seems most can be resolved by using bilt hamber to strip the rust away from the metal itself, and then one can simply apply fresh paint to the items or have them powdercoated. My question is, I dont quite get the difference between the two main bilt hamber products (deox gel and hydrate 80). Are you meant to use the gel first, then hydrate then paint? Or use either product(s) prior to painting..
Thanks in advance

The approach depends on the surface of your rusty items, I guess..
For rusty calipers for example you can use a rust remove product together with a wire-brush to agitate the rust properly.
This is what I used for rust:

And this wire-brush:

I even had a steamer handy when doing mine as it helped a lot clear the gunk from hard to reach spots.

My understanding is that the hydrate 80 is a liquid based solution and can be brushed on. It works best with light / surface rust.
The detox gel is a lot heavy (they described as being like apple sauce) and is for more heavy duty rust removal (for example suspension arms)
Give Bilt a call direct, they were very helpful and will answer your questions based on an exact scenario.
