Rusty Grilltech Front and Side Grills
Bought my MY00 with 13k miles on it from supers2k. The grilltech grills (fitted from new) have rusted. So following inspiration from a recent FS thread. I decided to "renovate" them;
First Attempt
1) Removed from car and wire brushed both sides
2) Thin coat of smooth silver hammerite brushed on both sides
3) Not a bad start but rust could still be seen on the holes
4) Second thicker coat to try and get teh paint in the holes!
5) Look 10 time better from a distance!
6) Look crap close up still some holes with rust in , brush hairs in places and uneven finish to hammerite
7) Found some much smaller edge trim from Maplin to protect the bumper from the edge of the mesh
Second Plan
1) Sand blast the bloody hammerite off
2) Get spray can of rust primer and prime them
3) Get spray can of Plasticote Silver and paint them
4) Use thin Maplin edging strip
I have thougth about powder coating them or replacing them with some stainless steel mesh like that on the XKR's.
