I am just buying an S2000 from motorpoint in Derby and I have looked into insurance - Directline do not load EU imports at all, and put no loading on Jap import S2000's except for the fact you MUST have a CAT1 alarm fitted.

My mate just bought an spanking new impreza form motorpoint only to find once he had got delivery that the warranty was not valid in the EU and subaru wouldn't touch it.
Don't know your situation, but make sure you ok what kind of warranty comes with the car?!?

Cheers all.

I've just contacted my current insurance broker as they specialise in import cars. Currently I'm paying around 865 quid for my FTO, I had a quick quote on Elephant.co.uk and it came out 1200 for a UK spec, which I would expect from a web quote.

In theory, UK spec and Import should be too different. I will perserver......

I can confirm that about DirectLine as I'm with them, IIRC they didn't even ask about EU import, UK import, or Japanese import. Tesco are a little cheaper, although inefficient by the sound of it.

dterry - motorpoint had some S2000's a while ago that came from Cyprus i.e. no underbody weather proofing, bear this in mind when buying from them. I mentioned this to the Lookers service manager when I was speaking to him the other week and he said S2000's only have a splash of weather proofing here and there anyway as everything is galvanised.

I bought an EU import so let me know if you require info on registering it.

and more importantly - what colour are you going for

You could try JapVillage 01403 257257 - He had a Red/Black recently I think

Hope this helps
Hope you didn't pay to get this done, you press a button on ours and it turns from MPH to KPH in 2 seconds including accumulated distance.

some other things to consider, especially on older Grey S2000's , are the different recalls they have had over there (steering knuckle joint failure IIRC), different suspension settings as standard, tyres are speed limited on most greys (maybe not the S2000 though???) servicing???

Apparently, the particular car I'm going to look at has FSH from Japan and has the DeReg documents as well.
I saw a programme a while back about stolen Japanese cars (in particular lots of 4x4s) going to Saudi and Cyprus where they were 'played with'..... and this included forging all new docs : handbooks, FSH invoices, the whole nine yards

Also saw the faces of people that had bought these in the UK as the police drove them away (because they are the property of the Japanese insurers)

Food for thought. That programme put me off Jap imports for sure
