Default S2000 Respray

I got a quote of £2500 plus VAT for a full respray in the same colour, no door jambs or anything and with me removing bumpers etc. Does this sound expensive?

Yes, unbelievably expensive in my eyes. The max you should be paying is £2000-2500 inclusive of VAT for a full body respray including everything like the door shuts where main panels will be removed and painted separately.

Have you looked at the quality of their work?

I'm in Somerset and the place is called Resto Shack - they did all the bodywork on the HEL S2000. I'll have to think about it as the car is already in very good condition, perhaps a major detail would be better?

Quotations for a full respray are a difficult one. To me, this price seems very good if the painters work is outstanding.

For this price i would expect zero orange peel in the paint and at least 3-4 layers of clear coat on there.

Has this sort of information been provided?

If the paintwork is in pretty good condition, do what I would do and get for example the front end done to remove the sightly stone chips then book her in for a detail to bring her up to potentially show winning standard!

A detail can cost you anywhere from circa £200 - £1500 upwards from myself depending how crazy you want to go with it!

Detailing is well worth considering though

Hope this helps!

Why are you doing it then?

I've had respray quotes in the £2.5 - £3.0k region and it really does depend on the quality of the work .

One place was going to put on 3 coats of clear coat that was left over from pre-emission regulations that would be equivalent to 6 coats of water based stuff and then wet-sand off almost all the first coat to give a flawless finish .

I can agree ,to some extent ,with the detailing route hence my obsession with polishing and polishes and the latest coatings .

However, the main draw back to this is that no matter how well you polish and wax/seal you're still dealing with not very nice and very thin Honda clear-coat.
