Granted, Honda/Jap paint in general is very soft. This does however make it faily easy to correct and remove swirls and fine scratches.

The real benefit of having a detail here would be the choice of sealant, for example Gtechniq / Carbon Collective / GYEON coatings all offer superb protection against scratches and swirls returning and can last circa 3 years+, you can layer waxes / glazes on top of this for the added shine and gloss but the advanced coatings these days are an excellent way to protect your vehicle and make the money spent on detailing go a hell of a lot longer way

Very soft and very thin .

Tangoman measured my paint thickness at circa 90 mu total so not too much to play with .

If people polish like I do , trying out different polishes/pads/techniques this paint is gonna get thinner .

I , unfortunately , am not a pro-detailer and have never been satisfied with the finish I've been able too achieve because no matter what polish /pad I've used I still end up with the slightest of slight grey tint to my black .

I put this down to dodgy Japanese clearcoat .

A full respray ,given the age of our cars ,is more a case of when rather than if .

I agree a good detail can extend paint life if looked after .

Trial and error will inevitably lead to removing too much clear coat and only way to rectify a burn through is to get the panel / car re painted.

Swirls and scratches will always come back if the car isn't cared for, but good technique when washing i.e. two bucket method and a soft woolly wash mitt instead of a grubby sponge will help loads!

By the sounds of it JSH you need a better finishing polish after you have corrected the marks in the paintwork.

A good one for finishing on black cars, infact i used this on my own S2000 it's that good is Scholl S40, this will help remove lighter swirls and marring and give you a really nice deep glossy fininsh, make sure to put a good sealant on with a very soft applicator though as even microfiber towels can marr the fininsh on the S2000

Hope this helps
