Default S2000 Type R ?

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Recently had a VW Corrado but have now changed to the S2000.
Have Honda ever muttered anything about producing an S200 Type R. Seems the most natural evolution to me....

Nope, But you can get JDM Grand prix white with red interior, it certainly looks the part Mytse has one, Don't think they would do a type R as its not got the market for it, Like they do with the Integra and civic.

The thing is that any Type-R (even the NSX version) is a lightweight, more driver-focused version of a standard model which is full of comfort toys (cruise and so on); the S2000 has ALWAYS been a driver-focused version, so a Type-R would be missing the point. I did hear that Honda wants to drop the Type-R badging anyway, in the coming years... who knows?

And I'm NOT suggesting here that the NSX is not a driver's car; far from it. It's just that it can be ordered with lots of kit on it.

I guess I'm gonna have to learn fast then! So that I'm up to speed, I already know who Mugen are, but who are JDM?

What's the best worthwhile modification for a standard S. Everyone I've spoken to also tells me to get new rims (I'm on the standard 16")

A Vortech supercharger?! Check out Dark Blue Mark's thread on his install. Now, I could really go for 300+bhp in a standard looking S...

How longs a piece of string. If you're looking for performance the best mod BY FAR is driver training track days. Most people on this board (inluding myself) can't drive the car at 100%

If you're going for bling, ask someone else.

If you're going type R on it: step one, lose weight.
aka lighter alloys (ignore size, certainly no bigger than 17", a lot go for Volks.
Light bucket seats
Remove the air-con, some people have done that, and it's a good move.
Replace boot and bonnet with UNPAINTED carbon fibre.
A lot of weight to be saved in brakes and suspension, but don't touch suspension until you're sure that's what you want to do
Lighter exhaust and don't kid yourself that it's going to gain big HP.

Go faster:

best go fast mod is not more HP but replacing the final drive
replace the air system: inlet and exhaust manifolds, exhaust and air intakes, maybe going snorkel or CAI.
Brakes: ducting, slotted disks, uprated pads, maybe lighter calipers. The strength of the stock system's pretty good, but doesn't cope with track heat so well.

Careful with considering FI. I don't think anyone in the UK has got a fully tuned FI system that they're 100% happy with. Although that may be because they're perfectionists.

And don't just "Mugenise". The best overall car mixes and matches to best effect. Some JDM bits are completely over priced and some are excellent for the price. People will be able to steer you in the right direction.

Here endeth the lesson...

My GPW JDM S...

Still a milion miles away from any sort of 'type-r' performance, but doesn't look too shabby does it.

There are so many things you can do to this car, browse through the main forum sections. The americans tend to mod their cars much more than us brits, and some have real nice setups.
