I was just concerned over the SVA tests. I read somewhere that it should have a mph speedo, therefore this car was a bit dodgy.
I think you're right, but that only applies on the day. Often things are swapped from other cars for SVAs; it's possible some UK clocks were borrowed and fitted just for the SVA, then put back.

It's probably worth asking for an explanation.

Not if its a jap import. The dash is wired slightly differently.
Or a French model either, I'd go as far to say that we are the only European country that have this feature.

So correct me if i'm wrong, but if your car has the option to switch on the dash buttons between mph/kmph then its defo a uk car & if it hasn't got this option or is just kmph is obviously an import (europe or jap etc)

Nope! only Jap imports don't have the button to convert mph to kmph.

Euro imports are UK specification. This means they are exactly the same as the cars imported into the UK.

Your right!

Ive just spoken to him and he seems to think that the speedo was swapped for the SVA tests and then returned back to origional.

Would this put you off, does it sound dodgy?

Hang on a sec....he's just got back to me. THe bloke who put it through the SVA has just spoke to me. he says:

'there's a chip that been added to the gearbox that has converted it to mph...otherwise it wouldn't of passed'

Can this be done or is he having my pants down?

Yes, that's okay (check out the VSS speed converter wiring thread).

But then it would be reading mph and you said it wasn't. Also with the converter, the odometer will be counting miles - are you sure it's 55,000 Kms and not 55,000 miles?

When i went to view it yesterday the speedo read 55km. He said that this equals to 35k miles.

So he must be running this converter but still using the km speedo.

so can the converter display mph (speed travelling) but only show overall mileage in km's?

im confused.
