Hi,

I'm looking into buying a jap import S2000 99' (its already oin the uk). I've found one with a V5, tax and MOT. Its got a rear fog light and Potenzas on the rear wheels.

Am i correct in thinking that this means its passed the SVA tests and its completely legal/legit? I dont think the seller has imported it through a company.

The speedo still reads in kmph and has no service manual or books (i know it'll be in japanese).

What do you people think?

thanks in advance

andy

Hmm, its a propper gamble mate...

I looked at buying an Indy Yellow Jap import when i first started looking, but went for a UK one in the end.

things to consider and look at would be...

Service Manual?

Speedo?

Light Washers ( i believe it needs them to pass the SVA, but some peopel swap them between cars so it may not have them now )

Fog light at back

Milage, are you SURE it hasnt been clocked on the boat? and can you read jap well enought to be sure?

Petrol, Jap ones only run on 98Ron +, UK ones preffer 98 but will run on as low as 93... but only if you HAVE to!

respayed?

Panel Damage - has anyone been drifting it and court either of the front courners or rear quarters?

modded, most jap S2k's have at least moddem exhausts

Insurance.. I actually found that insuring a Jap S2k was about

speedo - mine has the KM/H light lit, but someone has blacked out the K so it reads 'm/h'. speed itself is in MPH. has to be electronically moddified (new sender i presume) as the JDM guages dont allow you to swap between MPH and KMH like the others do.

insurance - was around

Hmmm not so sure about the HPI check, i reckon it will come up pretty blank as this would only have the information on it that was given at first registration - in the UK dock NOT in Jap land

but if it has somehow missed the compuslery SVA test, wouldnt it show on the HPI as an unregistered car?

saying that though, if it's been in this country for 1yr+ it must of had tax put on it, thus you need a valid v5 and mot...
