Sad ending to a wonderful ownership - and one last bit of advice
Well after 12 great years of ownership and nearly 100k miles together my fantastic S2k has finally expired and the engine has let go. I’ve loved the car deeply and always enjoyed driving it and it feels like saying goodbye to a good friend.
Realistically though, with the car being one of the very first cars (August 99) and the mileage on 177k, fitting a secondhand engine isn’t an option for me. The car is just beyond economic repair despite being in reasonably good condition. As they say, “all good things must come to an end”.
So, other than sympathy, my last piece of advice from the collective is what ballpark value is left in the car as it is? I’m not able to break the car and was looking to sell it on eBay via an auction and just see what it gets. But one of the sons of a mechanic at the local garage would be interested in it, but I’ve no idea what to ask. I don’t want to rip him off so something reasonable.
In in terms of condition, full service history, slight rust bubble on one arch and couple of areas of lacquer peel on the paintwork. Hood without rips and fully watertight but 10 years old. Brand new tyres (less than 30 miles) all round and 3/4 of a tank of fuel!
Anyone with any experience or been watching eBay recently. Your help will be gratefully received.

It's worth more broken. An engine will be minimum £2.5k plus fitting, your mileage car even good condition is probably £4k pre failure?
That would make it worth a bag

I agree it’s worth more broken, but as I say I haven’t got the time or space to do it. So really the question is what’s it worth to a breaker without an engine ?

To your bud to put an engine in £1k (a bag)
But lights, seats, wheel, panels, abs unit, ecu are all ££ parts
1500-2000?

Sorry Joe, I’ve let the mechanics son have it. Probably on the cheap, but they are a great bunch in there and the lad is just getting started and trained and I’m happy that it might bring him some fun and happiness. Would love to see it running again.
