Hi all,

I have an EU imported S (2002). I know it has an imobiliser on it, but can honda upgrade this to Thatcham Cat 1? I noticed on one of the threads it said that all EU/UK cars start with a cat 2 and Honda upgrade in the UK from new to a cat 1 by putting the alarm on, bust have just spoken to the local dealer and when I told him it was an EU import, he wasn't sure and said they would have to look at the car?

I have had problems with the dealer in the past being very obstructive over it being an import, is this just the case again?

Thought Imoboliser was CAT 2, the Alarm was what made it CAT 1 ?!?

Could be wrong, but that was my impression ??

I thought Honda fitted the Howard & palmer (or something sounding like that) to the uk cars which was an alarm/immobiliser as well as the honda one. That alarm is a pos anyway. You can just buy an aftermarket cat 1 and get a recommended company to fit it

Avoid the Honda alarm. It is a POS and your boot will never open by remote again.

If it is peace of mind you are after, forget the CAT1 and get a Tracker.

Thanks both...

Simon, that what i intermated in my post above... yes I think the imob is a cat 2 (but honda wont verify this!?) and I want to get an alarm fitted to make it cat 1. My honda dealer however will not tell me if this is possible and are genuinely crap when it comes to the S.

Marc, a couple of alarm specialists near me do the upgrade for

Honda Cardiff... generally know FA about the S. Tried to blag me that my warrantee wasn't valid, so had to speak with a dealer in Amsterdam, before all of a sudden my car appeared on their computer! If there was another dealer relatively locally I would take it there.

Re: the alarm... NO. To be honest I dont leave the car anywhere. Its garaged at night with the mrs's car pulled up and blocking the garage. I wouldn't mind one though. Adrian Flux want one before they'll consider insuring it.

New s's now come with a honda alarm I beleive which is fine. The old one which was a non Honda part has a habit of frying its circuit board and stopping the car from starting. Mine did this and it was a major pain in the arse but was fixed without visiting the dealers. I am sure there are alrams out there which will have a third button for the boot. I think clifford do one for a start although opinions seem to vary on them.

I have a Euro-import MY03, which is without an alarm at the moment too - although I don't leave it anywhere either, and it's always hidden in the garage at night.

I had bad luck with a Clifford G4 alarm on my old car (3 faulty sirens in 4 years), but I am seriously considering the new G5 to match the stickers on my windows... It comes with a programmable button for the boot release, so you can ditch the original Honda fob completely. Circa

Incidentally, the Clifford alarms come with a Microwave "bubble" interior sensor that can be mounted inside the centre console. This means that the roof can be left down, and the alarm sounds if anyone tries to climb in, or even waves their hands around inside.

As I remember from my friend's UK 03 car, the Honda retro-fitted alarm has Ultrasonic detectors in the A-pillars that look a bit unsightly? They only measure changes in pressure, so have to be turned off if the roof is left down..?

Tim.
