Well, you're no stranger to engines going bang

I know there's reason for TVR prices but that's a lot of car for under 20k.

Great toy, go for it

You seem to have done your research and are going into TVR ownership with your eyes open FB.

TVR Power took over all the rights to spares supply from TVR when it went down the pan, they have a lot of knowledge and pretty much every part you'll need short of a block.

Also check out Clever Trevor for spares, they can be cheaper.

Find a good specialist and build up a relationship with them, have

TVR?

Narrrhhh - load of poo if you ask me!

Yes - looks like you've really done your research from the posts, which is certainly the right thing to do.

I've had mine for over three years and although I do have the very rare thought of selling it (for an Ultima), I really couldn't see myself letting it go. It just make me smile too much!

I think you've got all the main points covered however here's a couple of things to check.....

1. Have you got a good independant dealer close to you?
2. Do they guarrantee the work they carry out?
3. When was the last rebuild? Recent ones ie post 2006 are the ones to go for as the oil starvation issue on the SP6 had been erradicated (basically caused a droped number 11 or 12 valve which was over 90% of the engine problems from 2000-2006)
4. Has the suspension been upgraded? The Tuscan's/Tamora's/T350's run better on Nitron or Gaz shocks - reduces high speed B-Road twitchyness

That's pretty much it, oh, I forgot one thing.......

Buy one.......

Go on............

Go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on................

You will giggle like an idiot when take it above 7000rpm in 3rd!

Oh - just remembered, and the S2000 reliable crowd are going to love this...........

The only time I had a breakdown throughout the umteen trips to the Ring, Le Mans, Spa over the last five years was in my S2000.

So there you have it - on conclusive proof that TVR's are more reliable than S2000's...........

Hmm, interesting synopsis, Rich.

I wonder if it's oil starvation sometimes does that to Nr1. valve on F20Cs, too?

Although I nearly had a nervous breakdown round a wet 'Ring on tyres with 4 different pressures last year.

Just got back from a 3200 mile Euro Hoon - saw a T350 and a Tamora broken down.
That swayed me

True - left hand bends at full chat can pop the F20C, but as engine's go they're pretty solid.

Oddly enough when Al Melling originally designed the SP6 engine he used an extra couple of oil rails in the head. Peter Wheeler decided that they weren't strictly necessary so removed them to save a few quid.

Since then and umteen dropped valves later, TVR Power, Austec and a few other specialists have re-designed it with the extra rails. Doh!

Also - yes, the newer TVR's (Tuscan, Tamora, T350 etc) are relatively sensitive to tyre pressures, not hugely so, but I'd certainly adivse against a mix of 32psi, 26psi, 34psi, 29psi when lapping the Nurburgring with lots of standing water around!

Actually come to think of it 20psi, 24psi, 22psi, 21psi around a very cold Donnington park is also not the best combo as it tends to get rather twichy through Craner Curves over 110mph and might even spin...........
