How come you are doing DIY? If its to save a few pennies then just supply them all the stuff and let them do what they are best at?

Im sure you can work out the serivce history by asking Honda to look on their computers?
IME you can get a good deal from the dealers if you find a good one. It's really not worth skimping on the FSH when it comes to resale. There were so many ATRs I didn't even consider because the owners had started DIYing the services after 50k miles.

For example, my 2006 service was

This is something I've wondered. What else do they really do? Do they plug it into their computers, do they make checks not in the service book etc.? I'm sure there's a service checklist but do they follow all the checks (or do some make more checks etc.).

Good question. They tick all the boxes on the service checklist but there's no guarantee they've really checked them.

Maybe I'm just being cynical because of all the main dealer horror stories I read about on here.

You mean all those dealers that checked my suspension didn't really do it?

Hmm, maybe that explains the spacers we found at 66k

My emphasis was on having a good trustworthy dealer, like I do now

A good dealer = Faith that the job's done correctly.

But the members have found loads of duff dealers/Honda mechanics. So it's not just a case of letting the dealer loose on your pride and joy.

I went to several dealers today for Shin- Etsu grease. Only one knew what it was and what it was for. That to me speaks volumes. Luckily it is the closest dealer to me and they had done my 3yr service earlier in the year. Recommended (Southern Counties Crawley for those who want to know)

Personally I wouldn't do a DIY - Don't have the right hammer.
