Default Servicing options

I wonder if I might pick your brains (again).
MY03 is just coming up for MOT and Honda in York are quoting £250.00 for a service and 29.95 for the MOT. I need two front tyres too, they're quoting £99 for RE050 each.
Now, looking at the service sheet, I think I'd be better off asking them to change the oil and filter, do a wheel alignment and the MOT and possibly tyres. All the other things on the service sheet seem to be checking belts etc and the money could well be better spent towards the alignment and tyres. I used to use event tyres but they don't cover York. Black Circles don't seem to be able to get RE050, just the RE040?? So my questions are,
1) Do ask them to do specific jobs on the car rather than the service?
2) DO you think I have better options on the tyres than the Honda RE050 option?
Budget is tight at the moment, and I'm only covering around 3000 miles a year.
Many thanks,
C

Presuming your front tyres are standard 215/45/17 then £99 for Bridgestone Potenza RE050 MZ is a very good price!! Especially if it includes fitting etc!

I have decided to have a change of tyres when I take my winters off, but I'm changing all 4, I personally wouldn't want different brands front/ rear.

If the service is just checking how do they justify £250? I'd get the tyres changed at that price (unless they bump everything on top) and go to a local DVLA test station for the MOT, get a local independant to do a service, oil and filter change, and get somone who knows what they are doing to do a geo alignment.

As your wheels are probably the 16" version and 205/55 R16, then £99 is quite pricey. You want RE050a which are in short supply at present.

Have a look at the Bridgestone RE002 like these: http://www.blackcircles.com/catalogu...&tyre=30104566

The £250 is probably not for the most basic service, they will have quoted depending on the car's history with them. Note that Honda Dealers will price match in the local area, so you should be able to negotiate them down a bit.
