Is it just me or do you find that the performance of your 's' varies even though you fill up regularly with Shell Optimax?

I have on rare occasions had to fill up with standard 95 octane and know how much this can dull the performance. I've never experienced performance inconsistancies between fill ups when I use BP Ultimate, which personally I find smoother, but provides slightly less performance than Optimax.

I am becoming increasingly suspicious of using Optimax now and wounder if garages simply fill their empty Optimax tanks with standard 95 octane unleaded when stocks of Optimax are short on supply. An unsuspecting customer would then be filling their car with 95 Octane fuel, but believe its Optimax - I think this is what might be happening if my experiences are right - or maybe I'm just paranoid!!!

There's definately nothing wrong with my car as everytime I fill up with BP Ultimate - full vetech performance is restored!...consitently.

A big part of how well Optimax (and any fuel) performs is dependant on how long it sits in the underground tank at the petrol station for. If you use a back-of-the-woods Shell garage then theres a reasonable chance that the Optimax could've been sat in the tank for a few weeks. If you fill up shortly after the tank has been refilled you'd basically get the best performance you'd ever get out of the fuel.

The longer it sits there, the more it (the octane) "degrades", just as fuel degrades when sat in the fuel tank of the car (although most of us go through the tank long before it makes a noticeable difference).
