As your profile suggests you are in Florida, I wouldn't bother with TDI, it's a little too far for you to travel to. you may want to post on one of the USA threads.
But then you seen to have a UK number plate.

So where the hell are you?

Ah it's getting clearer, I'm sure someone will be along from your present area with some ideas, of who to go for, although Thurrock may not seen far away from you, in the UK it's a journey!

Your luck's really not in, is it?

The most expedient way would be to drop in a secondhand engine - but you'll likely get no change out of £3,000.

Look at a few more UK 'blown engine' threads, to get an idea of the complexities/expense. You need a real specialist, who can rebuild one with enough accuracy to make it successful and not money down the drain.

yikesss at this point i fear i should just either try to part it out or see if someone wants it as a project but the market here is completely different than the states. I paid £3500 for the car itself two weeks ago so im out a bit of change right now.

what a nightmare.... my heart goes out to you! reading the other threads on thrust washer failure if that's what it is then

Still worth getting a diagnosis though... you could always take it to your nearest dealer (Crown Garage in Soham) and say 'hey - no workee - what's wrong'?

If the rest of the car is good and you end up spending 4k on it to get it working again ... you'll have spent what you should really have spent to get a decent working one.

That's my two cents anyway

A second-hand engine, fitted, for £3000? I hope you're right, but sounds a little optimistic. I would suggest nearer £4500, unless you know where to get a good second-hand engine for £2500? Most engines I've seen are circa £4000.

Joking aside Nick, where would you go to start looking for a good second-hand lump at reasonable money?
