Default Snooper SD715is

I noticed quite a few of people bought these units recently. Whats the verdict ? I'm thinking of buying one myself but not sure if it's the right model etc.

Did anyone hardwire the unit ? Was it easy etc.

It's difficult to say at the moment, as I haven't really done any routes I'm not familiar with.

The SD715is does appear to be selective on the gatsos it picks up, and I hope this is dues to the ones it doesn't pick up being inactive!

There is a fair bit of interference from satellite dishes, in town, traffic cameras (you know, the ones that see where the jams are for local news channels!).......but I think all the devices out there are subject to this.

The one thing I want to test it out on is hand held radar/laser guns, but not come across these yet.

However, for the price, I think it would have been silly of me to pass this up, as long as you remember it is at the budget end of the spectrum.

Overall, I'm satisfied

Came across one of these on the first motorway trip we did after we got ours (through a 50 limit for roadworks).

It picked it up in good time but to be honest we'd already spotted the white van on the flyover and the Snooper just confirmed our suspicions. It only picks up the signal when the bobby points his gun at you so unless we'd been paying attention and slowed down in good time it might have been to late.

Hardwiring the unit is simply. I have mine mounted on the dash in the right hand corner. The cable runs down the back of the dash into the fuse box.

The other popular place is below the rear view mirror, this involves removing the cover to the windscreen pillar in order to hide the cable.

Make sure you put an inline fuse between the Snooper and the hardwiring (as the original fuse will be lost when the cigarette adapter is cut off).

cheers

Alistair

I have the SD815, works well again sometimes does not go off at GATSO's so like San says I hope they are off.

Has a tendancy to go off near hospitals and BP garages....if it would only seek out Shell stations when you most need it!

San.

(Ali is my GF, we both own the same car)

The van that was on the bridge over the motorway looked suspicious so I slowed down from around 60 to 52. It was a long straight which would have picked up a radar (x band) speed detector, but as they were using Laser (K band). The laser has to be pointing directly at you to get a speed reading. Because the laser beam is narrow, the detector only picks it up when locked onto your car. By this time your speed has already been clocked and it is too late. If you are lucky, you might pick up a signal from the beam bouncing off another vehicle.

Always be careful on motorways, look out for anything suspicious on bridges.

I went to Liverpool a few weeks ago with a friend for business and on the way there noticed a white van on a bridge over the other side of the carriageway. We decided to watch out for it on the way back. Sneekily the van wasn't there but I noticed something strange on the bridge, told my mate to slow down to just over 70 and when we got there it was a camera on a tripod with a PC wearing his flourescent jacket hiding behind a bush.

You can't be too careful out there.

PS. Our Snooper and Road Pilot are both hard wired into the car. Will post pics if interested.

Lee.

Wouldn't mind pics of the hardwired snooper mate.....and how to do it (bearing in mind I have NO technical know-how...............I have difficulty changing fuses!!!!! )

One thing the snooper has made me do is to watch even more closely for vehicles, fluorescent jacket cladded men, etc.
And so I drive more carefully!
I guess the snooper is doing it's job, in a way, albeit by default!!!
