Snow wasn't going to stop me getting to the Yorkshire Meet yesterday - (1½hrs drive to Barnsley), especially as we had cancelled it in January due to bad weather.

The snow wasn't the problem for me as such as the major roads weren't too bad (just had to watch out for the slush piles when you were changing lanes) - it was the other drivers who were either driving too fast behind me in poor visibility, or didn't have lights on.

Made it in this morning fine.

We had snow on saturday night/sunday morning. 4"covering that melted away during sun. This morning was a mix of frozen slush and ice. Think id rather have 1" of snow.

The S is quite a funny car in the snow, I attacked a steady gradient hill and almost managed to get all the way to the top, until the back end kicked out and I was 90 degrees to the direction I was going, took ages to get going again then got stuck on the crest of the hill, it was practically flat! Tried nipping the handbrake on as I'd seen that suggested as something for the diff to work against but made no difference what so ever.

The snow is starting to get on my tits now.
You do need to nip the handbrake quite a lot for it to make a difference, you will feel it change as you do it.

Should both wheels then turn rather than 1 just spinning up then? It was on enough to hold the car, and it still spun one wheel up.

I will give it another blast tonight.

I found out the hard way that VSA/ESP can cause an accident even in a fwd car recently.

Whilst sliding towards the kerb on a steep camber covered in ice, the stability control STOPPED me accelerating away from it.
Car detected a rear slide and applied brakes, and chopped throttle to the FWD.
Car slid into kerb, slowly sideways but expensively.

A little poke of throttle and ATB diff would have easily pulled it into line.

Stupid FRED.

Flippin weather eh .... tbh i've still yet to see a gritter I don't care what anyone says, there is a point where you become a passenger no matter how good a driver you are - the frustration is when you KNOW that you could have done a better job than the car allowed you to do.

I work for highways for the county council, and believe me gritters are working! That too overnight, covering most of the roads, this time they did a very good job and most snow was gone from nearly every road I travelled on for my 13mile journey (in the S of course).
