Default Sparkplug Socket Size?

Just getting prepped to fire the S up after standing for the winter and i like to remove the plugs to turn the engine so the oil gets back round the system. I borrowed a workmates socket last year and he has since left and i am trying to find a similar socket to buy.

What size socket is it? Halfords sell 10mm and 14mm but the NGK's hex size is 16mm but i'm led to believe that the sizes quoted on the sockets are thread size not hex size.

Can anyone help??

Cheers

Easier than pulling the plugs would be to remove the fuse for the fuel pump. Literally take you 10 seconds

Well I have a 10mm spark plug socket, and a 14mm spark plug socket, and the bigger one won't even fit down the hole. It's pretty obvious if you look at one. 10mm is the equivalent bolt size, it's not the same thing as the size of the head.

I'll take your word on it. Cheers

Just found this on one of the main sites and it specs 16mm or 5/8".

My link

Dembo, i don't know what you have fitted to your car but by the sounds of it they may be a different type unless as you said the socket sizes are sized in a different way.

Sounds like Dembo is trying to say that the socket he has would work on an M10 thread bolt.

I think thats right but where i'm being thrown off is that the NGK's thread is 14mm but think has a head of a 10mm theaded plug. Obviously the S plugs are a bit more beefed up to standard.

I'm going for a M10.

A quick look around the net, and it appears there's two different sizes quoted:

Halfords sell a 10mm/16mm (Euro) socket. So it seems they're the same thing.

Mine just have 10mm stamped on them. But they did come from Halfords.

As I said, of the two, one with "10mm" and one with "14mm", the larger is obviously way too big.
