Default Speaker upgrade

Ok, I think I am probably being quite simple here after a long day at work but I am trying to fit new 6.5" Focals in the doors of my 2001 S.

I have the spacers pictured below which the speaker sits in nicely, but I am a bit unsure how the spacer secures to the door then the speaker secures to the spacer? Has anyone else used these spacers and can give me some advice on how to go about this? Do I just need to be drilling more holes in the spacer? What holes in the door do you used? It is something that should and probably is so simple to do but I am confused.

Screw spacer to the door using screws into the existing holes with plastic lugs. rotate speaker so that you screw it into the spacer where there are NO screws i.e. turn it 30 degrees or something.

Does that make sense?

I've got a pair of them spacers to use at some point to replace my soggy homemade mdf ones!

If you remove the existing speaker and basket from the door, and then remove the speaker from the OEM spacer, you should be able to put the OEM spacer into your mdf ones to mark the screw holes. Drill pilot holes and then fit the MDF spacer to the door.

At this point I would recommend covering the spacer in a sheet of sound deadening, if only to keep the moisture out!

You can then wire up and screw your speaker into the spacer.

See, UF that is what I was thinking, but the spacer does not actually reach all four of the holes that have the plastic lugs, but I have heard of so many people on here using these spacers which is why I am a little confused as to how/where to fit the spacer to the door...

Same answer applies to what you said Chris...but I got the 6.5" 18mm spacers that I was told are good for the job...

I will give that a go, if not can anyone link me to spacers that went straight onto the holes in the door without issue for 6.5" speakers? Do you leave the little plastic yellow things in and screw through them?

I made my own spacers ... used sunken hex bolts and nylock nuts to hold the spacers to the door and then screwed the speakers to the spacers.
