Default SPECS Camera's in Scotland

It's been deployed in several places on the A77 on the older Southern dual-carriageway section this week. Has it been put to use anywhere else in Scotland yet or is this the first?

I honestly thought we'd get away with it, and that our constabulary wouldn't be as big a bunch of barstewards as those down south.

As usual, they've chosen a "safe" stretch of road instead of targetting the dodgy bits.

How do you know this Gaz?

Yip. I thought the first place we'd see it would be Edinburgh actually. They like shafting the motorist out there as much dumfries & galloway.

To their credit they've done it at two quite dodgy bits. The first bit is at the busy cross-roads for Craigie at Bogend before the Symington crossing. The second is at the downhill crossing in between Hansel Village and Monkton Roundabout.

To be fair, both a places where people gun it and numpties pull out to cross with no thought regarding the oncoming drivers closing velocity.

I drove by the road works on Wednesday, and by the time I came back the camera's, the lamp-posts, the lot were all up! Not sure if it extends further in either direction.

Thought you meant further back at Kimarnock.

You sure it's specs?

See my "artists impression". It's too f*cking dark and miserable to go and take a pic tonight, but I'll take one tomorrow. Definitely SPECS though, given the number of cameras, and their close proximity to each other.

And the real mccoy (I looked the pic up after I drew the above banger!)

Cameras on those blue poles, with the logos in the middle, usually belong to one of the traffic monitoring organisations - the ones that you can subscribe to and they warn you when there are delays.

That's just what they expect you to think.

I know what you mean Mark (Trafficmaster etc.), but those do look awfully like SPECS cameras to me.

From memory, all the ones on the M6 have a dayglo orange plate behind or near the camera, although I concede there's nothing like this here.

In your defence, the Strathclyde Scamera Partnership doesn't mention anything about SPECS on its site.

PS. Worth a look before you head for Ardrossan ...
