I like the honda one, it's like they added the big top and bottom to fool you.

It's only side on do you realise it's pathetic.

Sorry mate, maybe sounded a bit harsh.

It just read like you were thinking the new ECU was going to make the car work that much harder, that a new rad cap was needed! I still think you may be a bit dissapointed by the results from the ECU, so i'd do that first and see how you get on.
No worries marc, no offence taken

My logic was thinking that these may benefit the installation of the new ECU, ie the engine working harder if you know what i mean.

Yeah i know to begin with, that i wont get a massive bhp/torque increase from the ECU, but it's easy to get carried away with the BHP/torque figure when benefits can be had elsewhere like under the curve etc etc .

As i say it also to satisfy my interests and learn from such modifications.

The Mugen thermostat/fan switch/rad cap lower the engines normal operating temperature, from 93 deg C to 80 deg C (the Spoon setup lowers this even further).

Apparently, the standard ECU monitors engine water temp and uses this as one of the parameters (along with intake air temperature) to determine where it sets ignition advance - higher temps less advance, less power/torque.

AFAIK the Mugen runs a more agressive ignition map and thus the cooling mods are advised.

Chris.

I believe that you underestimate Honda. The stock radiator works perfectly fine with a stock engine especially in the climate conditions you live. Like i mentioned before the radiator cap won't work on it's own. It needs the other cooling mods too (fan switch and thermostat). The KOYO radiator is just the top cooling mod but all of them are really worthless in a stage1 upgrade. If you where stuck in traffic over summer with 40degrees celcious outside (like Athens ) or having a track day in that temperature then it will definately help this upgrde.

Correct Chris.

Not sure on the ignition settings on the Mugen - that will be pretty much unknown, or a rumour from the US!

There isn't a huge scope to advance on an NA car between ECU's either.

Just to add that i totaly

Stock ECU monitors temperature and when it detects higher temps then lowers the advance to protect the engine. This happens only in very hot climate conditions
