for posting this...as you were bound to get the FAQ stuff - and is this one of the special max power mods you were selling online to upgrade your Honda's handling?

anyway it highlights very well the issue that so many Honda techs are not competent enough...does not give a lot of confidence in taking your car for a service...you need to double check and verify everything they do.

Oh yes and who performed that MOT test I wonder....

Springfield Citroen which by strange coincidence is next door to Springfield Honda.

Any ideas on the best way to approach this with Honda. Obviously I've got a meeting with Springfield on Monday about the brakes, and I shall be raising the spacer and MOT issue with them at the time, but the spacer is something that needs to go through HUK.

Should I start off with a phone call or get everything down in writing first? I haven't got a lot of confidence in the suspension components now, and I'm not going to be able to drive it properly until the car has been fullly checked out. I'm assuming that the dampers will now be completely uneven as one of them hasn't been used for 70k miles. I'm also assuming that the spring that's had the spacer in could well be fecked.

What I really want is for a good dealer (not Springfield ) to do a full inspection check on the car - all dampers and springs, diff oil, engine valve adjustment (I bet they haven't done that either) and anything else which should have been checked in the last 70k miles but has been conveniently missed.

Having read Pinkies thread again, there's one very interesting thing in common. Both my car and her car originated from the same dealer so there's a chance the PDI guy could have been the same

that is ing ridiciculous Neil

I honestly wonder if this kind of thing has caused anyone to crash-what about trading standards? Although I suspect that because you are not the 1st owner you can't go down the faulty goods route?? worth a telephone call though.

Maybe we should all go down to our local dealerships en masse and ask them to check for spring spacers as we have heard of a horror story of someone having it in after 70,000 miles-they would soon get the message then

Having recently been through a long legal battle with a garage (and won ), I'd suggest that you contact your local Trading Standards Office. They will supply you with all the relevant information regarding your rights and the law and should advise you of the best course of action.

As mentioned earlier, the other thing that I stongly suggest you do is get the car checked out by somebody independent of this entire fiasco, whether that be a decent Honda dealer (I'm sure someone on here can find you one) or a Japanese car specialist.

Good luck and keep us posted.

sorry to hear this Neil.

I hope you still have the spacer ? if so photograph it & keep hold of it.

I'm sure some of the motoring press would be interested if Honda aren't.

Sorry to hear about this Neil. Phone in first and then follow up with a letter copies of everything and by calling HUK first you will have a contact and possible ref number. Tell them that you want an insepection carried out by oneof their own technicians and not a dealer.

Cheers and hope you get a full new suspension on the car and some compensation.

Don't forget the little advice thing that honda include on delivery to the dealer about not driving over 10 MPH with them in. Just remind HUK about it.

Neil, this is awful and shows a great deal of incompetance across numerous Honda garages.

I'd write rather than phone. Send a PM to Pinkie as she has been through this in the past few months.

Springfield's reply was "It wouldn't make any difference to the damper performance"
Well, they would say that, wouldn't they?

I seem to recall that PL got the same response from her dealer initially. It got escalated to Honda UK and then by them to Honda Japan (I think) - they definitely seemed to take a different view to the dealer.

Persevere with it, Neil.....
