squeaky hard top
my hard top is squeaking, drivers side front roof latch, i've tred WD40 but it's not worked, not sure if i'm squirting in the right place. funny thing is it only starts squeaking on the same bit of road (Willow Lane, Hitchin, as you get off A505), a little bit bumpy but i drive down this road quite often and now it's becoming annoying. Looking forward to the summer so i can ditch the hard top in the garage but until then anyone have any ideas?
Try some silicone grease. I also use a very light smear (just a smear) along the top seals where the roof meets the screen. Rub in well and wipe a little off. Your striker plates may be worn? Try a little grease under the hooks first...
Here are a couple of little gems to try as I just solved the squeaks with my hardtop on Sunday.
Number 1 - Check the bracket (bolted to the windscreen) isn't loose. Easy to check by whilst driving along that bad stretch of road put your finger between the plastic A-pillar trim and the bracket. If your finger gets pinched at any time the bracket is slightly loose and just needs tightening up.
Number 2 - The hardtop might be loose. By that I mean that when you lock the latch it isn't under tension and just locks very easily. The best way to resolve this to either put a little bit of tube over the latch hook itself to increase the distance it is from the bracket when clamped OR simply slide a little square of card (1mm thick) between the location knuckle on the hardtop and the bracket crevis that the knuckle locates in. In doing this you should see the tell-tale sign of rubbing because the paint will have worn off where the 2 locate. Another way of properly fixing this is to adjust the hardtop relative to the roof lock pin that locates in the B-pillar bracket. PM me your email address and I'll forward you the instructions to do that if all else fails and patience won't stand it anymore.
Hope this helps.

i tried for almost three years to get rid of my hardtop squeaks and creaks to no long lasting avail.
temporary relief can be found with liberal applications of said silicone grease and by employing short lengths of rubber tubing placed under the front catches.
good luck

All I found the silicone grease does is help to dump water on my knee and window controls when I get in and out of the car when it's been raining.
Are you sure it's the hard top that's rattleing and not the folded up soft top?
