Default Steaming up

Very, very occasionally my offside headlamp steams up but I can't find out where water can be getting in. I have checked for pin holes etc on the front lens but can't see a problem. It doesn't even happen after I wash it and I've never jet washed it.

Yesterday it did it and it was a fine day here.

Can water get in from the back of the unit?

Anyone had similar and fixed it.

Never seen this on mine.

My advice would be to get it fixed under warranty next time it happens. I believe the lights are v expensive and wouldn't mess about myself.

Why should I anyway?

I believe that the HID bulbs can either explode, or deliver a rather potent shock - one of the two. I think that a warranty exchange on the headlight seems the best course of action.

Never seen it - check the rubber seal at the back of the unit?

Once the dampness is in there, it won't come out. It's the same with blown seals on double-glazed window units. Every time the sun hits them on a cold morning, they steam up inside.

Many cars of crappier makes with lens-within-lens lights (Eg Puma rears) are prone to this.

Get it done under warranty.

Only ever had this problem in the winter, small amount of condensation fogging forms in the lights (and on the speedo!) and goes away pretty quickly. Must stress that the car is v.cold and is just being taken out to give it a run. Never seen it when the car's being used regularly or in warmer weather.

Chris - I have tried the headlamps and all bulbs working so it's not that.

Taking it in to the dealers next week for a service so will enquire about it then. If it happens again I will take a snap of it as proof. You can bet it will be Ok when its at the dealers.
