Default Steering Wheel

At 6'6", I don't find the S cramped, but I do find the wheel is too big. I have to 'heel and toe' with the side of my foot. I also find very tight corners an issue as I have to let go of the wheel and shuffle it round, much like you had to when learning to drive, which isn't ideal from a car control point of view.

So my question is, what steering wheels out there are suitable for the S, but are smaller? Are the later model wheels smaller in diameter? I really like the look and feel of my OEM one, but it's just too damn big! I'd like to retain the airbag if possible as well.

As far as i know there is only Momo who do an airbag replacement wheel, its not much smaller than OEM though.

There are plenty of non-airbag wheels available which fit provided the correct hub is used.

Chris.

Can you recommend any Chris? I'm not keen on those with bells/whistles/buttons on them. Something sturdy, attractive and relatively small would fit the bill.

Not the same as the S2000, granted, but I've just put a significantly smaller steering wheel in my land rover. It took several weeks to get the hang of it, as it's changed the handling dramatically.

I went for a 12" Mountney steering wheel (from the original 16" ish LR one), for exactly the reasons that you've described - more leg room and better ability to get your hands around the wheel at funny angles. The other thing that I found is that with the boss plus the dished wheel, the rim ended up a lot further away from the dashboard.

I'd be happy to let you borrow the wheel and boss from the landy, for a trial fit in the S2000. The splines will be wrong, so no good for a trial drive, but a dry run would work.

Should you end up removing the airbag permenantly, I read in a "removing the passenger seat airbag" thread that you can fit a resistor in lieu of the bag and retain the use of the system as a whole.

Would the flat bottom steering wheel off a Type V be any good?
