Default SWOP KNOBS

I have a big round heavy shiny thing to swap for OEM neat leather one.

As per previous cars suspect that a good firm twist will unscrew the OEM. Maybe to ensure no damage to internals by the shaft turning, pad and hold with mole wrench whilst twisting off OEM knob.

Correct?

no, undo locknut 10mm spanner, 'mole' grips will mark the shaft.

Thanks. As car still to be delivered no chance to examine things closely - had not spotted lock nut.

Car now delivered but will be week-end before playing with it and changing knobs.

Might drive the car for a while getting used to the 6 speed layout, after all the OE knob is a classy looking item in itself.
But I shall fit the VERY heavy solid steel knob that is a little larger in size than the OE. It made an immense difference to the already easy change on my MX-5. Something to do with mass assistance at end of pendalum sort of effect.

It strikes me that by changing to a very lightweight aftermarket alloy knob you lose the opportunity of securing a practical advantage in lieu of easthetics.

I just changed my '03 half leather gearknob for a muz big ball of silver shiny loveliness. It was a 14mm spanner to remove the lock nut and took seconds. The muz knob sits lower and just feels sooooooooo much better than the OEM and it looks the absolute business. I bought it from paulcoop here on the board, and i know this might sound a bit daft, but with the added weight we both think it makes the changes feel better, really pleased with it.
