Default Taking S upto Glasgow (7th,8th 9th Dec)

Hi All,

I'm going to Glasgow (Erskine) for work on Friday the 7th Dec, so I thought the other half and I could make a weekend of it.

Anyone got any hotels they would recommend, roads, or anything to go look at?

Cheers

Kiwi

Watch out for speed cameras vans on the A74/M74, they like to sit on the bridges over the road

Erskine?

Unlucky

There are two hotels really near Erskine, The Erskine Bridge Hotel and Marr Hall.

Marr Hall may be a touch pricey though.

As for doing stuff, if you don't have to go shopping in Glasgow then I'd head up Loch Lomond side to Fort William for an over nighter on the Saturdat. Amazing roads. Especially through Glencoe and Fort Bill's not a bad place to spend a night.

Sunday, you could head for Stirling or suchlike. Nice there too. If you do get to Stirling make sure you do the castle and Wallace Monument.

Is it not a bit of a dump? Was the last time I was there

I only pass through nowadays.

If you have saturday and sunday free, worth a trip further north - Kintail Lodge Hotel is nice.

You can avoid the M74 speed cameras by using the test-track that runs alongside it from north of Gretna- B7071 or summat'.

The Glen Nevis Hotel is alright but, yeah, the town centre hotels are a bit lacking.

It may not be the prettiest town in the world but you're always going to have a good night in the pubs there. Okay, some of the locals are a bit 'Cletus' but there's always a good crowd of walkers/ mountain bikers/ skiers etc. in.

I work near Erskine, Old Kilpatrick in fact. Just on the other side under the bridge. Heard the bridge hotel is nice.

Head North, but avoid the A9.

and Oban (it's a dump too).

There are some fun driving roads around south Lanarkshire and Dumfriesshire, but you really need to be shown them.

Glentrool is a nice twisty worth doing, from Straiton to Newton Stewart. Don't stop in the quaint old pub in Straiton though (banjo playing clientele).
