Default The temperature gauge - how many bars?

Hi all,

I realised this morning that I've never seen my temperature gauge light up more than 8 bars, ever. 8 bars is 'a few' less than 'half way'.

After a cold start, the gauge lights up 6 bars during a few mins driving, say 4 or 5. Another few mins later, bar number 7 and 8 light up.
Only after this point I tend to rev above 3krpm and know it's okay to open up the taps if needed.

Now, whilst this gauge activity shows stability, I wondered:

1] What 8 bars equates to!?
2] What is considered normal?

Thanks .

p.s. I believe pre-MY04 cars have a slightly different gauge (i.e. horizontal) - the number of bars may differ - hence the thread title to avoid confusion!

I think you're fine, my MY04 does pretty much the same, 1 mile @ 30mph ~2mins I'll normally be up to 3 lights then they'll rise another 4/5 in the next mile @ 40mph - I've never counted them as I'm generally paying attention to the road but it never goes to the 12 o'clock position (stays at about 11:30) which I guess means it's at 90º rating for the thermostat

8 is the norm but the actual temp at 8 bars varies a lot

My MY05 does exactly the same and I consider this to be normal, however, I tend to go by time running (8 minutes minimum) and distance travelled (to allow the drivetrain fluids to warm up) before going
