With the valve clearances set up correctly you'll help prevent valve seat erosion, dissipate heat better and help keep the balance between each cylinder, generally if you can hear tappet noise at start up that quieten down once warm you're probably in the right ball park.

from your original list 3 = 7 = diff oil change.

The idea someone posted to change discs and pads is just mental if they are OK, but you could get them to check the calliper sliders and pots are free.

Doing the valve clearances should put back some of the horses that have escaped.

{Don't tell them at Dixons you want brake and clutch oil changed, they will laugh!

Finally don't forget to post up the results and cost etc.

Thank you. I'll get that done as well I guess. In for a penny...in for a few hundred pound.

you know what - I copied and pasted the 'oil' text straight from the DMS email! I was sure it would attract attention

I'll start a new thread with the costs and results.

Make sure they put enough diff and gearbox oil in, they seem to struggle with that sometimes....

This list £320 inc VAT
  1. Engine oil
  2. Gearbox oil
  3. Diff oil
  4. Oil filters
  5. Brake fluid
  6. Clutch fluid
  7. Spark plugs
  8. Coolant
  9. Check all ball joints
  10. Overall condition of the cars, brake disk/pad, Tyres, seized bushes...etc
Checking valve clearances is £75 inc VAT

So £395 all in all. A fair bit more than I was intending to spend but happy that I'm getting (nearly) all the things done suggested by people 'that know'.

A few cosmetic things that I was considering getting done (few dings, wheel refurb) will have to wait is all. No biggy.

I'll post 'results' when I get the car back.

That looks fair, and worth having the valves checked, if I weren't many hundreds of miles away I'd book mine in.
