Default Throttle Body Gasket

Evening all,

After reading a thread where cleaning the throttle body resolved the whistle associated with the K&N I'm going to give it a go. Will order a gasket, but do I need sealant or not? If so, I'll get this at the same time as the carb cleaner.

Anything else I should clean or replace whilst in there?

Graeme

You don't need sealant.

Anyone else used sealant? I can hear air being sucked in and car isn't running 100% smooth. If I spray carb cleaner around the top of the throttle body seal the revs pick and up die, so definitely not a good seal. I'll try refitting, but maybe also try gasket sealant????

Is that with the new gasket too? Did you clean the faces before putting it back on?

Yeap, new gasket.

Yeah removed all of the old gasket remains with a blade. I'll refit and double check everything tonight. It's definitely on tight.

I use sealant on all my gasket faces on the Polo - gaskets don't tend to seal that well when running 23psi of boost.

F**K... just snapped one of the studs as I put it back together and it was still leaking at the top.... tried too hard

Will start a new thread

Does this look like the right gasket? Certainly fit in all the right places.
