Default Timing chain replacement

Hi,

I've just noticed a slight metallic rattle coming from (what appears to be) the front of the engine. It's not the usual TCT rattle, and given that I'm now approaching 100k I'm wondering if it's time to get the timing chain replaced?

If so, are there other ancillaries that need replacing at the same time?

I would be tempted to remove the Auxilary belt off and check the various pulley bearings for play or noise. Its alot easier to fix one of those bearings then to change the chain which will cost you a small fortune.

What MarkForrester said...

I had a metallic noise coming from mine (was a horrible noise!)

Turned out to be my aux belt tensioner that was knackered.

Cheers,

dave

Its only very slight at the moment, you can only hear it at idle with your head in the engine bay. I hope its not the timing chain yet as I know its not a cheap job. I'll have another look tomorrow and maybe get a video.
