I was equally as nervous as you before my first track day kate. I've only done that one, at Anglesey, with bookatrack, but they were very good, and we were in 3 groups, novice, intermediate and advanced. I found the day most enjoyable.

I previously did an Academy day before the trackday, and that gave me the confidence to try the trackday

I am no expert, so can only speak from my one experience. At the time i was insured for non competitive track days on my policy, but since then have renewed and couldnt find a similar policy anymore

You'd be welcome along at any event too

Good point about the sessions. For a 1st day it might be best to steer clear of "open pit lane" or un-sessioned days. These seem to get the most worry from newbies. That said, open pit days have been some of the quietest days I've done. Steer clear of the first hour of the day, and first hour after lunch and you can often do clear lap after clear lap

you need to find some proper fast road/race pads like poterfields and possibly change your brake fluid to a higher spec. the porterfield pads are deisgned to work at much higher temps than the standard road pads.

 

Be careful choosing race pads for road use - race pads generally have to be warmed up before they bite - road pads need to be able to work effectively from cold for those "ohmygodthetrafficaheadisstationary" moments.....

Changing fluid will help, but simply not staying out for more than 10 mins of hard lapping, cooling down the brakes thoroughly by doing 1 slow lap AND a bit of driving aound the paddock at slow speeds is anough for those of us who can't change parts from the OEM ones (comapny car you see....).
