Trackday Helmets
The regs I got with the booking of my trackday at Bedford last week said as well that in convertible cars you need a full face one... which made me wonder how strict they really are because I'd rather have an open face one, but don't want to buy one and then find out they won't let me on!
Bike lids are more designed for landing on tarmac at 100+mph rather than clouting a roll bar/roof bar. This kinda thing...

Although when your lid is £300+ and almost new, you try and keep it off the deck (Along with expensive boots and gloves)

Bedford are strict on the full face in an open car rule. A couple of years ago my brother and I went there, and he had an open face helmet, I had a full face one. They insisted he hire one of their full face ones. In fact it was the day you can see us in my avatar!
Nice one Gary!!
Specific car helmets (SA approval) are designed for multiple impacts and resistance to high load abrasion ( when you are upside down with your head grinding along the tarmac)
Bike helmets are designed for one large impact and light load abrasion.

@Ultra_Nexus, I have heard of that before, I found a site called 'SHARP The helmet safety scheme' that crash test lots of helmets of different makes, (although they are all bike helmets) in the Arai section they tested 8 helmets, one being the Arai GP5X, which scored top marks (5 stars). Did a search on an auction site which through up one relevent result, its in the right size aswell, XL (because I have a massive head
60cm) So I might go for that one
