Default Tramlining

I've just put my set of F1s on now the weather's deteriorating and they're distinctly less able to deal with uneven road surfaces than the Bridgestones they replaced and tramline quite markedly on our (not so smooth) roads.

Does anyone have any simple theories or ideas on how to reduce this? Maybe I'll start playing around with tyre pressures to see what difference that makes. I was running the S02s at 34 all round which certainly worked well, and have 34 on the F1s at the moment.

Get your alignment sorted out ....

Any time in the past I have had tramlining this has fixed it.

You may be right on that (car was 'aligned' in Jan this year), but it doesn't explain why the car didn't suffer from this with the Bridgestones on.

I've only experienced tramlining when I've used part worn tyres. Checking the alignment before the tyres wear to another shape would probably be the way to go.

Odd! I found it the other way around - F1's where better than S02's, well when I say better, I mean less tramlining

You may find that the F1's which are certainly a softer sidewall may have a larger or smaller footprint than the S02.

In 225 format its likely to be smaller on the tire tread width and rradius , 245 x 45 seems to be the replacement rear size and is most likely to be a wider tread width than the So2s

Its possible that the softer tire follows the road more , the stock S02's are Very stiff. Or it could be that the F1's different contact patch again follows the ruts more...

or none of the above

Ive found that the alternatives to the S02's need careful consideration as even replacing like for like sizes different brands offer different size tire widths for the same size.

I'm using 245/45/16 rears which I believe = the same contact patch as the 225 S02s. Of course it could be our roads are a significant contributory factor
