Tyre Change
Hi all,
Two days ago now I had both back tyres changed on the S and replaced with Toyo T1R Proxes, the correct size etc according to the hand book. I also have the same brand of tyre on the front of the car, again the correct size, profile etc according to the book. The front have plenty of tread left so these were not touched.
Ever since the rears were changed the car feels really unstable and unpredictable at the back end when cornering at any speed from 30 upwards or there about. It really scared me today, the car just felt like it was all over the place.
So far I have checked the tyres are what was ordered etc and are all the correct profile which they are. I also checked they are going in the right direction which they are too. I checked pressures and all are set to 32 as the book says. Checked all the nuts were tightened properly etc, again all fine.
I am totally baffled by this, the car felt perfectly fine before the tyre change, what has happened to make it feel so uncontrollable all of a sudden?
Anyone any ideas? It is very frustrating...

The tyres need to bed in - give it 500 miles - will be different!

Really? Bed tyres in for 500 miles? I have never experienced this before, in saying that this is my first rear wheel drive car, is this bedding in period specific to the S, or do all rear wheel drive cars do this?

I hate Toyos. With a passion. What I suspect you're feeling is the difference between an old tyre and a new tyre.
Bit like the difference between an old and a new David Cameron, one is better than the other; but you wouldn't want to rely on either.....

It must just be the floatiness of new tyres & coupled with the Toyo soggy sidewalls, frightening! In which case, it WILL settle and I've heard it takes a long time with Toyos, too.
The only thing (if it's a 16") is; were the old ones 'up' a width at the rear, which seems to be recommended if not using S-02s?

They just need bedding in mate, if you want to speed the process, do a few donuts in a car park. Toyo T1R's are awesome tyres, just adjust the tyre pressure to between 34-36 to compensate for the side wall, but other than that, they are great, very soft compound so they'll only do about 7k , but the grip and predictability is a lot better than the hard compound bridgestones

i'd say bed in would be quicker than 500 miles, on a bike they say take it easy for 100 miles but they are soft tyres
as JD said, try increasing the pressure
