Default The Tyre FAQ

I'm looking for 4 new tyres, and while the tyre FAQ gives me sizes and tells me the original tyre spec (now discontinued) it doesn't give me much info about exactly what I should get now.

A few searches on the forum shows me I need to think about S02 or S03 or S01.
About Re50A being AZ or BZ, or CZ

From what I've gathered a standard Bridgestone Replacement is the ;
Re50a AZ

Assuming this is correct it might be worth adding it to the FAQ.
(unless it's already there and I missed it.)

... the FAQ recomends the
Re50a 91W (92W)

But the 91W is just the speed rating a load of the wheel, there's actualy a few types of Re50a with 91w (or 92w) but different ?Z codes.

Not entirely sure, but the AZ is probably specific to a particular model of car.

In the same way, the old S02 tyre had specific variants for the S2000 and a Boxster.

Stick to the standard RE050a and you'll be fine.

From Event tyres:

205/55R16 91W BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE050A
225/50R16 92W BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE050A S2000

The BZ and TZ varieties are run flats, which may help

Just spoken to event Tyres, they say Bridgestone recomend the AZ.
They can supply the standard for the same price and don't think I'd notice any difference in the tyre.

They are kindly getting back to me later after checking some things.

I'll post any results here, they might be of use to someone at some point.

Good work, sadly I can't see which tyres are on my car as it's at home. Event supply mine, so I'm sure they're fine.

Event tyres have just spoken to Bridgestone
Bridgestone say......
They have recently normalised their tyres.
The Reo50a is the only one they produce now and they recommend it for the S2000.

The AZ was the S2000 recommended tyre but has been phased out along with the BZ, CZ and all the other variants.

So the FAQ is correct, Reo50a, you just need to be careful a supplier doesn

I was just about to suggest talking to Event!
I had a few comments from the fitter when he put my Goodyears on a week or so ago.
The last letter of the suffix dictates the car they were made for.
Apparently they are quite different including differences in compound and side wall strength!

Hi guys - email from Bridgestone below that I received about 3 months ago.
My idea was to keep it, so that if my wheels went mental, i could blame them! LOL

Hope it helps!

"...Hi Andrew

The S02 has been superseded by the RE050A in many of the sizes. If you can tell me the size of your tyres I can confirm this for you. The RE050A is the direct replacement the S02 usually. The technology of the tread pattern has improved since we developed the S02. The S02 is a directional tyre and the RE050A is the newer asymmetrical styled tyre. This difference in tread pattern means that there are changes in handling attributes as the RE050A works in an alternative way to provide even greater grip and all weather performance.

I hope this helps and if there is any other matters that we can be of assistance with then please do not hesitate to get back in contact..."
