Depends if you enjoy driving like a cock in the wet or not? Unless you're pushing the car, then RE002/S001 will be fine.
I liked the MZ's on my car though, good grip in the dry, not so good in the wet. But the S001 are in another league.

I have the RE002 / S001 setup at the moment.
The S001s at the back are great, rear end is locked down; but it the setup does highlight that the S001 is a better tyre than the RE002 as the front end struggles to bite on turn in and you end up with a bit of understeer - this was most apparant at the tight Curborough sprint course.
That said, the RE002 / S001 setup is fantastic for the road / fast road - they offer all the grip you'd ever need on the public road and perform just fine in the wet, very predicable. The firm side walls make the car feel very crisp too. The Kumho KU39s seem pretty good too and are for bargain money, MJK46 (friend of mine) is running the KU39s and they're certainly not holding him back! They have a high load rating of 94 too.
As I plan on doing more track days I'm going more agressive with my tyre choice, though. I was considering the KU36s - when I priced them up they were cheap, about £330 for a set in 215 / 245, but I looked last night and they've shot up in the 245/40 size as you've also found. I was also looking at the Federal RSRs, and in the back of my mind they were the better choice from the offset anyway - reportedly better wet grip and I expect dry grip to be darn good too with a wear rate of 140 compared to 180 of the KU36s.
Many of the guys on here rate them highly (flybikeslee, markforrester, mdb_75) and having scoured through many pics (mostly Lee's) the RSRs in 225 / 255 fitment don't bulge over and are just within the recommended wheel size for the tyre size (as per Federals website). That said, they do look bigger on the OEM wheel, but not too big. Looking at a Bridgestone 245 next to a Federal 255 it makes the 245 look too skiny - but I think its largely down to preferance, I quite like the purposeful look of 225 / 255.
So I committed only last night and bought the Federal RSRs in 225 / 255 fitment from Oponeo... only £304 for all 4 tyres, delivered. Incredible value, all considered.
I'll report back with my findings!

Love to hear your opinions on the rsrs. Flybikeslee recomended them to me and I'm tossing up them and ad08r when I change but the cost of rsr is so much better. And my car isn't used in the wet so not worried massively about wet performance, would only ever be if it turned to rain within a day. That's why I've now put the f1a2 idea aside that and a lot of people saying they're squidgy.

I think my front sizes are standard for the 17' and the rears are a little narrower face at 9.25 inches (235 mm) compared to your 255mm (10.1 inches) and the 245mm standard rear width on 17's. This does mean my tyre wall height at 40% of 235 = 94mm (3.7 inches) or so ... I reckon that will give me a good feel for the road and stiff non wobbly tyre wall .... plenty of grip too. You will have a wall height approx 102mm (4 inches) if you went 255 x 40 ? My tyre size preference may have the effect of lowering my car by half an inch over yours for example. But these are all subtle things not sure how we will compare.

I considered the 235 option but a chap at work has got RSR 235/45 on his car and it measured nearer to 230mm in tread width, where as the Bridgestones 245/40 I have currently measure around 237mm in tread width. Given the Bridgestones 245 already sit on the wheel like \___/ as opposed to |___| I went for the 255, as I prefer the latter.
On top of that, part of my wanted criteria for new tyres was to increase my contact patch over the Bridgestones so the 235 option, whilst not much less, certainly wasn't more.
The RSR is reportedly a solid tyre and are a tad more difficult to fit (apparently) so I don't expect a wobbly feeling at the rear, but we'll have to see!
Worst case, I doubt they're going to last long anyway, given the wear rate coupled with my style of driving / sprints / trackdays

Going back a few posts but I can vouch for the Toyo R1-R's... I found them much better than the Potenza's
In the dry they stick REALLY well, but they are soft so they will wear quicker and cost twice as much.
