Tyres? Advice please

It seems to be another S2000 myth perpetuated on this site that you WILL die at the first corner you take if you use anything but OEM rubber, but I hate Bridgestone rubber - I remember it being rubbish on my Impreza and it's rubbish on my S.
For 16” most people seem to suggest the Bridgestones are the way to go.
For 17” there seems to be more discussion.
I used to think the same TRW, I thought i'd not be able to tell the difference, but i've tried a lot of different stuff now and I think that's the key. You often don't realise until you try something esle. Can be costly if you get it wrong of course!
On a more serious note, Michelin Pilot Sport II's are excellent. Not sure if they come in S2000 sizes though.
On my M3 I've run Falken FK452's which are a good budget tyre, very good in the wet, but a bit noisier and not as much dry grip.

Must be something specific to the S2000 then, only ever driven on S02s and RE050s but spent plenty of time in other cars with different rubber and never found a huge amount of difference. I guess I just find it hard to fathom that a tyre specific to the S2000 would be so much worse than a generic similar priced premium tyre.
Next time round I might have to try something different but rarely replace all four at once so it doesnt make too much sense to change pattern/brand. Will check out the Goodyears though if they all need doing.

Rob have been looking at these. Do they really give R888 levels of grip in the dry? How did you find the sidewall stiffness?

They did seem to take the heat well though. Could never get them to overheat.
TRW, take the Toyo for example, it's a softer compound and heats up quicker than the RE050. For that reason the wet grip is significantly better.
I really struggle to get the RE050 to get hot on the road, but I bet it's a great track tyre.

I dont disagree that some characteristics will be better but overall IMO when you take into account grip, mileage, price etc I find the RE050s pretty good. As I mentioned I have only ever been on Bridgestones in the S2000's but from hearing the experiences of others on here with different brands Im not all that sure I want to risk changing. I got 17k out of my last set and when I hear of people only getting 5k or less out of a set of softer compound ones I just cant understand it, maybe im just cheap!
